BE SAFE TO EARTH, REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTIC BAGS.

INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC BAG FREE DAY

The international plastic free bag day is observed on July 3 annually. Plastic is toxic for the environment and requires more natural resources to produce it. Due to excess production and use of plastic, it produces plastic pollution which goes into the soil and get settled and causes land pollution as plastic doesn't decomposes and settle in the ground for more than 1000-5000 years in the ground which makes the soil infertile and agricultural on the land become difficult. Inshort, plastic will pollute the earth which eventually will be a life threat to all the living organism of the earth.
So, this day is observed to raise awareness about the grave issues of the plastic and it it will be hazardous to marine life if it get washed into the oceans. It becomes an imperative alarm against the ill effects of the single-use plastic bags.

CAUSES OF PLASTIC POLLUTION:

There are many reasons of plastic pollution such as :
  • Population growth and urbanization
  • Excessive use of plastic
  • Plastic is cheap and affordable
  • Low rate of decomposition
  • Fishing net
  • Improper disposal of plastic

Here is the small animation which show the causes of the plastic pollution :

“We make so many things that don’t require the longevity that plastic has – we don’t need a straw that we will use to sip one drink that will stay in the environment forever.” — Heidi Taylor
EFFECTS OF PLASTIC POLLUTION :

Believe it or not, but plastic pollution has major impact on the environment as well as the ocean and the main cause of these is the overpopulation, urbanization and over use of single-used plastic.
So, the effect can be divided into two portions:

EFFECT OF PLASTIC IN ENVIRONMENT AND OCEANS:
  • When plastic is burnt, there are many toxins that are burnt and goes to air causing air pollution which deplete the ozone layer causing the U.V. rays to enter the earth.

  • Ground water are the principal source of all the organism and it has become a consideration for every country to conserve water worldwide. Now, imagine when it comes to rainy season the water from the atmosphere goes to the ground and the toxic substances also combines with the ground water making the water contaminated.

  • It causes land pollution, when the garbage are dumped in that respective area. The toxic substance present in the plastic makes the soil infertile and degrade the soil and unfortunately it becomes a waste land i.e. agriculture in that land is not possible.

  • Plastic pollution mainly affects the marine fishes and mammals which disturbs the aqua life and due to the deposition of plastics in the oceans it cause injury and there are many deaths of fishes and mammals which can be seen in oceans. This disturbs the ecosystem . Because of the excess plastic on the oceans, plastic can be seen in the stomach of the mammals which is ingested by them.

There are many more such effect such as flood, earthquake which is more disastrously affect the living organism of the earth. Flood is caused due to clogging of plastic on rivers, lakes which eventually harm the human life. Around 67% of the plastic are circulating in the oceans and river. Imagine if these all happens the water will give back all the plastic we have been put into the ocean.
So, to avoid these we have to come together and we should ban the use of single used plastic bags, rather we should use paper bags and plastic bags which can be reused or recycled. there are many campaign which has been carried regarding the plastic pollution control.

BAN PLASTIC, SAVE EARTH!
